Why Psychology?
A journey that began with a smile.
My interest in psychology didn’t begin in a classroom, it started at Tebessüm Kafe, a social enterprise in Istanbul where young people with Down syndrome work as servers. I was invited by my mom, and I remember being surprised. At the time, I hadn’t yet realized how capable and inspiring people can be, regardless of cognitive differences.
That visit changed my perspective.
I began to ask questions: How does the mind work? What shapes our emotions, behaviors, and connections?
Psychology became more than a subject, it became a way to understand empathy, resilience, and the stories behind every smile.
Today, I’m pursuing psychology to explore the human experience and to support greater awareness, inclusion, and meaningful change.
I believe in listening with care and creating spaces where everyone feels seen and heard.
And if you ever visit Istanbul, I highly recommend stopping by Tebessüm Kafe. The food is great, the coffee unforgettable and the warmth stays with you long after you leave.
